Natural Grass

Having a patio installed at your home can provide you with a recreational space that essentially blurs the boundary between a residential building and a garden attached to it.

A patio can be used for open-air dining, relaxing and entertaining. However you intend to use your patio, though, there would be the important question of what material to choose for the outdoor pavers — or ‘slabs’ — from which it is assembled. Here are some options you might consider…

Concrete

Making outdoor pavers of this material involves mixing cement, aggregates and pigments together before the resulting paste is — through pressing or moulding — sculpted into a slab shape.

Though the slab might appear to be hard after as few as three to four weeks, the concrete curing process can actually take months or even years. On the plus side, concrete pavers can be produced in many different styles and sizes and will call for little maintenance once installed.

Natural Stone

It’s worth emphasising the ‘natural’ part of the equation — as, unlike concrete, natural stone is not made from disparate materials but instead raised from the ground. The manufacturing element comes in later, when the quarried stone is cut and finished to specifications cited for the patio project.

Types of natural stone differ in physical strength — with slate and granite, for example, outclassing limestone and sandstone on this count. No matter what type you opt for, however, the outdoor pavers will naturally differ in their look and feel. You could call it Mother Nature’s artistry…

Brick

When trying to decide what paving material would look just right for your patio, it can help to take into account the style of the residential building from which it will extend. For example, if you have a traditional red-brick home, a patio also built with bricks can come across as a seamless feature of the property.

Outdoor pavers in brick are available in a range of colours — and can prove impressively strong and durable even in high-traffic areas. As specialists in block paving, we are skilled at arranging bricks into various patterns for patios on behalf of customers living in New Zealand’s Canterbury Region.

Would you like us to install you a block paved patio at a home you own in the Canterbury area? If so, feel free to reach out to our local company — such as by phoning 021 292 2335 — in order to book a consultation with us. We can help you to decide on the right outdoor pavers for your patio.
